Job Summary
The Assistant Computer Operator Lead monitors and operates the control console of either a mainframe digital computer or a group of minicomputers, in accordance with operating instructions, to process data. Directly supervises computer operators. Assists carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Assists training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
Note: This is a 2nd shift position
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Studies operating instructions to determine equipment setup needed.
Loads peripheral equipment with selected materials such as tapes and printer paper for
operating runs.
Switches necessary auxiliary equipment into system.
Starts and operates control console.
Diagnoses and corrects equipment malfunctions.
Reviews error messages and makes corrections during operation or reference
problems.
Maintains operating record.
May test run new or modified programs and assist in modifying systems or programs.
May also perform programming analysis.
Processes a range of schedule routines.
In addition to operating the system and resolving common error conditions, diagnoses
and acts on machine stoppage and error conditions not fully covered by existing
procedures and guidelines.
In response to computer instructions or error conditions, may deviate from standard
procedures if standard procedures do not provide a solution.
Refers problems which do not respond to corrective procedures.
Qualifications
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months
to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Valid state-issued driver's license with acceptable driving record.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Ability to pass government-mandated background checks and drug screenings.
