Medical Billing Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support revenue cycle activities for a healthcare organization in Columbus, Ohio. This Long-term Contract position focuses on accurate billing, insurance follow-up, cash posting, and documentation review while helping patients and families better understand available coverage. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of medical billing workflows, payer requirements, and electronic records, along with the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Enter and validate billing information with a high level of accuracy to support timely claim processing and account maintenance.
• Review remittance files and supporting records before posting to confirm completeness, correctness, and alignment with payer requirements.
• Post payments, contractual adjustments, and other account transactions while maintaining accurate client balances.
• Prepare and submit reimbursement claims after examining documentation to verify eligibility, compliance, and billing accuracy.
• Monitor payer agreements and special payment arrangements, helping track terms, updates, and new contract support needs.
• Coordinate with supervisors and operational teams to ensure billing practices remain consistent with insurance and special pay requirements.
• Follow insured and alternative-pay clients across services to confirm procedures are completed properly so benefits can be applied.
• Assist patients and families with understanding coverage, authorization, and payment options, and communicate with insurers when advocacy is needed.
• Maintain complete electronic client records, invoice documentation, and third-party payer paperwork in accordance with organizational standards.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in medical billing, healthcare claims, or revenue cycle support.
• Working knowledge of medical billing, medical collections, cash posting, and insurance reimbursement processes.
• Experience reviewing claims, remittance data, and account activity for accuracy and completeness.
• Familiarity with healthcare insurance guidelines, managed care processes, and third-party payer requirements.
• Ability to use EMR systems and electronic medical records documentation tools effectively.
• Understanding of preauthorization, benefit verification, and insurance follow-up procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and written documentation skills.

Compensation

$23.75-$27.50 Hourly
