Land Use Attorney

Compensation: $185 to $230 Yearly

Our client, a growing full-service law firm, is seeking a Land Use Attorney to join their litigation team. The ideal candidate brings persuasive writing ability, confident advocacy, and the organizational skills needed to balance a demanding caseload effectively.


Role: Land Use Attorney

Location: Providence, RI

Schedule: Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote but can be 3 days in office, 2 days remote after onboarding period)

Salary: $185,000 - $230,000 (depending on experience)


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee local and state permitting processes from application through final approval, including preparing submissions, attending public hearings, and advocating on behalf of clients before regulatory bodies.
  • Represent clients before Zoning Boards, Planning Boards, and other municipal and governmental agencies regarding land use, development, and regulatory matters.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage applications for permits, licenses, variances, special permits, site plan approvals, and other governmental authorizations.
  • Research and analyze zoning ordinances, land use regulations, municipal bylaws, and applicable state laws to provide legal guidance and strategic recommendations.
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and correspondence regarding zoning, planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, municipal officials, consultants, engineers, architects, and internal staff to facilitate project approvals and client objectives.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to client inquiries and time-sensitive matters while maintaining a high level of client service.
  • Monitor project progress and regulatory developments, proactively identifying potential issues and recommending solutions.
  • Prepare and prosecute administrative appeals and other proceedings related to permitting, licensing, and land use decisions.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and provide timely updates regarding the status of applications, hearings, approvals, and related matters.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Admission to practice law in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts required, with active membership in good standing with the applicable state bar(s).
  • 5+ years of experience in land use, zoning, permitting, municipal law, administrative law, or a related practice area.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and obtaining permits, licenses, approvals, and regulatory authorizations at the municipal, state, and/or federal levels.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and approval processes governing land use, development, licensing, and permitting matters.
  • Excellent oral advocacy, negotiation, and written communication skills, including experience representing clients before public boards, governmental agencies, and administrative bodies.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex regulatory and legal issues and provide practical, strategic, and solution-oriented counsel to clients.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and writing skills, with a demonstrated record of producing high-quality legal work product.

Compensation

$185,000.00-$230,000.00 Yearly
