Tax Manager - Public
Responsibilities:
• Lead the preparation and final review of individual federal and state income tax filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.
• Manage a portfolio of client engagements by coordinating deadlines, monitoring budgets, and maintaining consistent service standards.
• Perform in-depth tax research and prepare clear written analyses, client communications, and supporting documentation for complex issues.
• Advise clients on tax compliance obligations and planning strategies across individual and other applicable return types, including business, trust, estate, and nonprofit matters when needed.
• Respond to federal, state, and local tax notices, and represent clients during audit-related activities and follow-up correspondence.
• Provide direction to staff and seasonal interns by assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and offering coaching that supports technical growth and performance.
• Oversee production priorities during busy periods to keep multiple projects moving efficiently while maintaining quality expectations.
Qualifications:
• Active CPA license.• At least 7 years of recent experience in public accounting with substantial exposure to tax engagements.
• Strong command of federal, state, and local tax laws and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual tax returns, with broader return exposure considered beneficial.
• Effective leadership skills with the ability to delegate work, mentor team members, and provide constructive feedback.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interaction, technical explanations, and internal collaboration.
• Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability in a deadline-driven environment.
• Familiarity with CCH Axcess Tax, Axcess Practice, ProSystem fx Engagement, QuickBooks, or similar tax and accounting software is preferred.
Compensation
