Statutory Accounting Consultant - P&C Insurance

Compensation: $75 to $85 Hourly

Our client is an insurance company looking for an experienced accounting consultant to support a services organization on a contract basis in New York City. This role will oversee statutory accounting and regulatory reporting activities for property and casualty insurance operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable guidance. The position calls for a strong technical leader who can translate complex accounting matters into clear business insights while partnering across finance, actuarial, claims, underwriting, and technology teams.


Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of statutory financial reports and regulatory submissions, ensuring all filings are completed accurately and within required deadlines. Filings include NAIC Statements (Yellow Book), Risk-Based Capital (RBC) reports, Schedule P, and other P& C-specific schedules.

• Manage the preparation and review of quarterly and annual insurance statements, capital adequacy reporting, supplemental state filings, interrogatories, and other property and casualty schedules.

• Apply statutory accounting guidance to reporting activities and maintain compliance with insurance regulatory requirements at both the national and state levels.

• Evaluate emerging accounting pronouncements and regulatory updates, then guide their implementation with attention to reserving, reinsurance, and unearned premium considerations.

• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to consolidate reliable financial data and support complete, compliant statutory reporting.

• Act as the primary contact for regulators, external auditors, and examiners during audits, reviews, and financial examinations.

• Strengthen the control environment around statutory reporting by designing, documenting, and monitoring effective internal controls.

• Provide leadership and coaching to statutory accounting staff, promoting technical development and supporting team growth.

• Work closely with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and IT teams to improve data quality, streamline reporting processes, and advance automation initiatives.

• Present financial results and accounting developments to senior leadership, highlighting operational impact, compliance considerations, and recommended actions.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• At least 10 years of progressive statutory accounting and reporting experience within the property and casualty insurance sector.

• Strong command of Statutory Accounting Principles and insurance regulatory reporting standards.

• Demonstrated background preparing and managing insurance regulatory filings and related financial submissions.

• Solid understanding of core P& C insurance functions, including underwriting, claims activity, and reinsurance structures.

• Experience using statutory reporting platforms such as Workiva, Wings, Clearwater, or comparable tools.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting topics to executive audiences.

• Proven success leading teams and developing accounting talent in a deadline-driven environment.


Compensation

$75.00-$85.00 Hourly
