The National Solutions Business Area at Leidos currently has an opening for a Senior Software Engineer to support advanced software development efforts in Orlando, FL. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise developing innovative software solutions that support mission-critical capabilities for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.

In this role, you will serve as a senior technical contributor and technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-performance software solutions that address complex engineering challenges. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop next-generation capabilities spanning high-performance computing, computer vision, image and mesh processing, geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence, modeling and simulation, and advanced visualization.

The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in modern software engineering principles and advanced programming techniques while helping define technical strategy, mentoring engineering teams, and collaborating with government customers to transition innovative research into operational capability. This position requires the ability to solve highly complex technical problems, influence architectural decisions, and contribute to the strategic direction of critical programs

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain complex software systems throughout the complete software development lifecycle.

  • Architect and implement high-performance software applications.

  • Develop scalable algorithms for computer vision, image processing, computational geometry, mesh processing, photogrammetry, and geospatial data exploitation.

  • Design and optimize GPU-accelerated software using CUDA and parallel computing technologies.

  • Develop software frameworks, reusable libraries, APIs, and services supporting mission applications.

  • Perform software architecture, design reviews, code reviews, debugging, profiling, and performance optimization.

  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and government customers to develop innovative technical solutions for complex mission challenges.

  • Lead technical planning, software architecture decisions, risk identification, and implementation strategies for large, complex software efforts.

  • Mentor software engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple development teams.

  • Research emerging technologies and evaluate their applicability to customer missions.

  • Support customer demonstrations, technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program milestones.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, software design artifacts, interface documentation, and engineering reports.

  • Ensure software quality through automated testing, configuration management, continuous integration, and DevSecOps best practices.

  • Contribute to technical proposals, innovation initiatives, and research activities supporting future business growth.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline with 15–20 years of prior relevant experience, or a Doctorate with 13–16 years of prior relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree in accordance with Leidos equivalency guidelines.

  • Extensive experience designing software architectures and implementing object-oriented software solutions.

  • Experience developing high-performance, multithreaded software applications.

  • Experience with software lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, software design, implementation, testing, debugging, integration, and maintenance.

  • Experience with Git or equivalent configuration management tools.

  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead on complex engineering efforts.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve highly complex, multidimensional technical problems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical information to senior government and industry stakeholders.

  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to software engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GPU programming using CUDA or other parallel computing frameworks.

  • Experience with AI enabled code devlopment

  • Experience developing image processing, computer vision, machine learning, or artificial intelligence applications.

  • Experience with computational geometry, mesh processing, photogrammetry, or point cloud processing.

  • Experience processing large geospatial datasets, terrain databases, or satellite imagery.

  • Experience with 2D and 3D data visualization and exploitations

  • Experience developing modeling and simulation systems supporting Department of Defense customers.

  • Experience developing cloud-native or distributed processing solutions, including GPU clusters.

  • Experience with Python for automation, data processing, AI workflows, or scientific computing.

  • Experience developing software supporting Digital Engineering, Digital Twins, or advanced visualization.

  • Demonstrated history of technical innovation through published research, patents, or peer-reviewed technical papers.

  • Experience leading technical teams, defining software architecture, and influencing strategic technical direction.

  • Experience collaborating directly with government research organizations such as AFRL, DARPA, Army Research Laboratory, or other DoD organizations.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $154,050.00 - $278,475.00
