Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr Principal Human Factors Engineer (T04 level). This position is located in Roy, Utah.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The Flight Systems Futures operating unit within Strategic Deterrent Systems is seeking highly motivated talent to join a team at the forefront of next-generation hypersonic capabilities. Our team focuses on the design, development, and demonstration of hypersonic re-entry vehicles and advanced payloads, with an emphasis on rapid development and prototyping aligned to specific customer missions. We operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where innovative concepts are matured quickly into credible, testable solutions that address our nation’s most demanding strategic deterrence needs.
This role specifically will be focused on leading our human factors development and execution.
The following lists the expectations for the role:
Contribute to the system architecture using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools
Generate, allocate, and trace human factors requirements (ergonomics, usability, crew workload, human system interface) across the system hierarchy
Define verification methodology that validates compliance with human factors standards
Author requirement sets and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
Produce customer deliverables such as human factors trade studies, compliance matrices, and validation reports for program reviews
Participate in lab based demonstrations and hardware in the loop (HIL) testing to verify usability and crew interaction
Mentor junior engineers on engineering best practices (e.g. MBSE modeling, verification planning)
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience or PhD and 4 years of experience
Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
3+ years of system architecture experience focused on human factors requirements, compliance, standards, and ability to translate them into system requirements and verification plans
3+ years of proven ability to author, manage, and trace requirements using IBM DOORS, CAMEO or similar tools
Preferred Qualifications:
ICBM Experience (MMIII or Sentinel)
2+ years demonstrating experience with lab based demonstrations of human system interfaces, including usability testing and crew task simulations
2+ years experience developing MBSE models that incorporate human factors elements (e.g., ergonomic views, taskflow diagrams)
Professional certifications such as Certified Human Factors Engineer (CHFE) or INCOSE CSEP
Experience resolving issues and providing technical support

Experience using Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Capable of working with minimal direction and in team environments
Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems
Experience developing systems in joint collaborative environment between contractor and customer

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
