Payroll Supervisor/Manager
We are looking for a Payroll Supervisor/Manager to join a well-established independent advertising agency on a contract basis in Santa Monica. This assignment will support payroll operations during a leave coverage period and is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can work independently while maintaining accuracy across complex, multi-state payroll activities. The role offers flexibility with remote work options, along with occasional onsite collaboration as needed, and provides the opportunity to contribute to broader payroll and HR-related initiatives.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee end-to-end payroll administration across three recurring pay groups, including weekly pay for freelance and contract staff as well as semi-monthly cycles for salaried employees and executives.
• Execute payroll processing for an employee population of roughly 500 team members located across 25 states, ensuring timeliness and precision in each cycle.
• Apply multi-state payroll knowledge to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local wage and tax requirements.
• Set up new employees in ADP Workforce Now and maintain ongoing employee payroll records with a strong focus on data integrity.
• Support onboarding coordination by working within Greenhouse and aligning hiring information with payroll setup requirements.
• Prepare final compensation, separation payments, and termination-related payroll transactions in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance to address payroll questions, provide reporting support, and resolve payroll-related issues.
• Contribute to special payroll assignments, workflow enhancements, and compensation-focused projects as business needs arises.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll with strong hands-on expertise in ADP Workforce Now.• Proven ability to process both weekly and semi-monthly payrolls accurately and on schedule.
• Solid understanding of multi-state payroll practices, including payroll tax rules and regulatory compliance.
• Experience supporting payroll for a workforce of 500 or more employees.
• Ability to work with minimal direction while staying highly organized and meeting critical deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in payroll data entry, record maintenance, and reconciliation.
• Background in employee onboarding support and payroll system administration.
• Familiarity with Greenhouse or a similar applicant tracking platform is preferred; exposure to compensation analysis is a plus.
