Payroll Manager
Robert Half Management Resources is seeking an Interim Payroll Manager for our professional services client in West Los Angeles, California. This hybrid engagement, expected to last 3+ months, is well suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who can oversee payroll operations, ensure accurate and timely pay practices, maintain compliance, and provide steady leadership throughout the interim period. In this role, the Payroll Manager will also help enhance payroll processes and support seamless coordination with cross-functional partners.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee weekly and semi-monthly payroll cycles for a workforce of about 500 employees located across 25 states.
• Administer employee payroll records in ADP Workforce Now, including onboarding updates, separations, final compensation, and other pay-related changes.
• Monitor payroll tax obligations and state-specific requirements to help ensure accurate and compliant processing.
• Work closely with Human Resources and Finance to investigate payroll questions, resolve discrepancies, and support uninterrupted operations.
• Review current payroll procedures, identify inefficiencies, and recommend practical enhancements to strengthen accuracy and consistency.
• Maintain payroll documentation and assist with knowledge sharing to support continuity during the leadership transition.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll in a multi-state environment.• Strong working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now.
• Background handling payroll for large employee populations and multiple pay schedules.
• Solid understanding of payroll taxes, regulatory compliance, and employee status changes.
• Ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and perform effectively with limited existing documentation.
• Proficiency in full-cycle payroll administration with a strong attention to detail.
