Hiring Range: $172,972.80 - $240,859.44/Year. It is anticipated that the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is seeking a strategic Director of Commercial and Marketing to work closely with Senior Management in defining and advancing the Port’s commercial vision, market positioning, and revenue growth strategy. This role will provide leadership across commercial planning, marketing, and market engagement initiatives, ensuring alignment with PCCA’s long-term objectives, while supporting the Chief Commercial Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive commercial and marketing strategy aligned with PCCA’s long-term strategic plan.
  • Leads the retention and expansion of existing customer relationships, increasing Port revenues through active engagement with the current customer base.
  • Supports business development opportunities by collaborating with internal teams to determine feasibility and alignment with Port objectives.
  • Establishes, monitors, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to revenue growth, pipeline of opportunities, customer retention, market share, and diversification.
  • Establishes rapport and maintains long-term, value-driven relationships with customers, business partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of market conditions, customer needs, and external factors impacting Port customers and operations.
  • Recommends enhancements or changes to Port services to better meet customer needs and support revenue growth.
  • Monitors regional, national, and global industry trends impacting port operations, logistics, and trade.
  • Leads commercial planning efforts to optimize utilization of existing infrastructure, assets, and capacity while maximizing revenue opportunities.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of PCCA lease agreements, including contractual structures, obligations, and negotiation strategies.
  • Coordinates with multiple internal departments to analyze deal and contract requirements and ensure timely and effective implementation.
  • Leads contract and deal negotiations for new leases and agreements.
  • Develops and delivers professional presentations, proposals, and promotional materials to support marketing and business development efforts.
  • Analyzes pricing, tariffs, and revenue models; recommends adjustments to maximize value while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Represents PCCA at trade shows, customer meetings, community engagements, and industry-related events.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Fosters customer service excellence through effective communication, staff engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participates as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) to support enterprise-wide goals and priorities
  • Builds, manages, and sustains a high-performing department through recruiting, training, mentoring, performance evaluation, and appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Leads, motivates, and supervises assigned staff; recommends promotions, compensation adjustments, and professional development opportunities.
  • Operates independently while contributing as a collaborative team leader, maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity at all times.
  • CPR certified or ability to obtain CPR certification within the first year of employment
  • Tier (1) status designation
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • Degree in Business or Management or equivalent required, MBA preferred from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment
  • Valid driver’s license
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • 7+years of experience in sales, commercial or marketing or duties outlined
  • Proven record of success in sales and marketing of professional services/solutions with clients within the targeted market segments
  • Successful track record of managing a large portfolio of customers
  • In-depth knowledge of port operations, marine terminals, logistics, and supply chain dynamics, including how infrastructure capacity and operational constraints impact commercial opportunities.
  • Understanding of customer relationship management (CRM) principles and long-term account development strategies.
  • Familiarity with financial concepts including budgeting, forecasting, pricing models, revenue analysis, and return on investment evaluation.
  • Knowledge of market research methods, competitive analysis, and industry trend monitoring to support informed commercial and strategic decision-making.
  • Working knowledge of lease structures, tariffs, contracts, and concession agreements commonly used by port authorities and public entities.
  • History of creating effective working relationships across functional lines and managing and working with people from diverse backgrounds and areas of technical expertise
  • Experienced negotiator with strong written and oral communication skills negotiating and analyzing contracts; proficiency with computer applications and internet
  • Experience interviewing, training and mentoring staff to meet ongoing challenges and to strengthen the department
  • Problem-solving, consensus building, and experience working effectively within an energetic and dedicated team
  • Proficiency in professional business communication, including preparation of presentations, proposals, reports, and executive briefings.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of effective employee supervision, including instructing, training, planning, delegating, motivating and evaluating work/performance
  • Knowledge of interpersonal and public communications techniques
  • Effective collaboration, partnership and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and policies related to budget, personnel and cost control required
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of contract administration and compliance preferred, along with effective negotiation principles and techniques

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
