Safety Specialist / Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

Are you passionate about creating a safe work environment and ensuring every employee goes home safely at the end of the day? FSI is seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to lead safety initiatives on a federal facilities operations and maintenance contract.

What You'll Do

As the Site Safety & Health Officer, you'll be the leader responsible for implementing and maintaining our site safety program while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, contract requirements, and FSI's commitment to workplace safety.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and champion FSI's safety culture across the project site.
  • Implement, manage, and enforce the Site-Specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
  • Lead weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings for all employees.
  • Deliver and coordinate health and safety training programs.
  • Ensure employees are using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Review and support Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and required safety documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, contract requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Partner closely with project leadership, government representatives, and subcontractors to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when immediate safety hazards exist.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a safety professional who leads by example, communicates effectively, and is committed to continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of continuous safety experience in construction, facilities maintenance, operations & maintenance (O&M), or general industry.
  • Experience managing workplace safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Documentation demonstrating a minimum of 8 hours of formal safety training annually over the past five years.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and workplace safety best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Experience supporting federal government or military installation contracts.
  • Experience with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.
