Bookkeeper

We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support a construction-focused organization in Richmond, Virginia. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who understands project-based accounting and can manage financial activity tied to owners, subcontractors, and billing documentation. The role requires strong accuracy, sound judgment, and the ability to keep accounting records organized in a fast-paced contractor environment.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain day-to-day bookkeeping records for construction operations, ensuring financial transactions are entered accurately and on schedule.
• Process vendor invoices and subcontractor payments while monitoring outstanding obligations and supporting timely disbursements.
• Prepare customer invoicing and track incoming payments, including documentation associated with owner and subcontractor pay applications.
• Complete bank and account reconciliations regularly to confirm balances, resolve discrepancies, and preserve accurate financial reporting.
• Support construction accounting activities by organizing project-related financial records, billing backup, and contract documentation.
• Use QuickBooks to manage accounting data, generate routine reports, and help maintain a reliable general ledger.
• Review AIA billing materials and related forms to ensure submissions are complete, accurate, and aligned with contract requirements.
• Assist with accounting process updates or workflow changes related to operational needs when required.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction or contractor industry.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence working within accounting systems on a daily basis.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation tasks.
• Working knowledge of AIA billing, pay applications, and supporting construction-related documentation.
• Familiarity with construction accounting practices and the financial structure of project-based work.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and efficiently.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors.

Compensation

$25.00-$27.00 Hourly
