Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support a high-volume invoice review and tax analysis initiative for a Long-term Contract position based in Spokane, Washington. This role focuses on evaluating accounts payable activity, assessing sales and use tax treatment across multiple states, and organizing findings into clear, supportable records. The ideal candidate brings strong AP knowledge, solid Excel skills, and the ability to work through billing and invoices with accuracy and consistency.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the review and processing of large volumes of paper and electronic accounts payable invoices, ensuring accurate coding and documentation.

• Examine approximately three years of invoice history to classify tax treatment by state and identify patterns requiring further review.

• Assess sales and use tax applicability across multiple jurisdictions using established guidance and prior research provided by the team.

• Compile complete, audit-ready support packages for tax authorities by organizing invoice records, analysis, and related backup materials.

• Identify potential overpayments, refund opportunities, and tax exposure, then document conclusions in a clear and traceable manner.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in accounting, staff accounting, or accounts payable functions.

• Hands-on experience processing invoices in high-volume AP environments.

• Knowledge of account coding and invoice classification practices.

• Familiarity with sales and use tax review across multiple states is strongly preferred.

• Proficiency in Excel for tracking, organizing, and analyzing financial data.
