Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Health Information Management (Medical Records) Clerk to join our Healthcare team. In this role, you will maintain the accuracy, security, and confidentiality of patient medical records while supporting healthcare providers with timely access to health information. The ideal candidate has strong administrative skills, knowledge of electronic health records (EHR), and a commitment to HIPAA compliance and exceptional customer service.
Essential Responsibilities
- Maintain, organize, and manage patient medical records in both electronic and paper formats.
- Retrieve, scan, index, and file medical documentation into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Process requests for medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies.
- Verify patient information for accuracy and completeness before filing or releasing records.
- Prepare, sort, and digitize incoming medical documentation.
- Respond to internal and external requests for patient information in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Assist physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff with locating patient records.
- Monitor record deficiencies and communicate with providers regarding incomplete documentation.
- Perform quality assurance audits to ensure accurate record maintenance.
- Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) at all times.
- Process incoming faxes, referrals, and other healthcare documentation.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
1+ years of administrative, medical records, or healthcare office experience.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.
Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) systems.
Compensation
