Collections Specialist

We are looking for a Collections Specialist to join a construction-focused organization on a contract to hire basis. This position supports timely cash flow by managing commercial collections, resolving account discrepancies, and coordinating payment arrangements with business customers. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of accounts receivable processes, works confidently with financial systems and spreadsheets, and remains effective in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage business-to-business collections activities by contacting customers regularly to secure timely payment on outstanding balances.

• Place a high volume of outbound calls and follow-up communications to address past-due invoices and maintain consistent account resolution efforts.

• Negotiate and document payment arrangements that align with company guidelines while helping customers bring accounts current.

• Review credit-related information and support the setup or maintenance of customer credit lines based on established procedures.

• Assist with accounts receivable research by investigating unapplied cash, short-paid invoices, and customer tax-exempt status questions.

• Monitor account activity, identify discrepancies affecting payment, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve billing and collection issues.

• Use enterprise financial platforms such as Oracle, HighRadius, or similar systems to track collection progress and maintain accurate account records.

• Prepare and update spreadsheet-based reports to organize account details, support follow-up actions, and communicate collection status clearly.

Qualifications:

• Experience in commercial collections, credit and collections, billing follow-up, or related accounts receivable work.

• Ability to handle a large volume of outbound collection calls while maintaining professionalism and strong customer communication.

• Working knowledge of payment plan administration, account reconciliation, and collection process best practices.

• Familiarity with financial or ERP systems such as Oracle, or other comparable business platforms.

• Proficiency in Excel for reviewing account data, tracking activity, and supporting reporting needs.

• Understanding of finance and accounts receivable principles, including cash application issues and deduction research.

• Education in finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred but not required.

• Capacity to stay organized, meet deadlines, and perform well in a high-pressure work environment.
