Position Title: API Platform Automation Engineer
As an API Platform Automation Engineer, you will develop and maintain automation solutions that improve the deployment, configuration, governance, and lifecycle management of enterprise API gateway platforms. This role combines software engineering, DevSecOps, and platform automation to create repeatable, secure, and scalable deployment processes supporting mission-critical federal applications.
The ideal candidate is passionate about automation, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and cloud-native technologies and enjoys collaborating with development, platform engineering, and cybersecurity teams to streamline software delivery and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automation supporting enterprise API gateway configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Build reusable Infrastructure as Code templates, automation scripts, and configuration management solutions.
- Integrate API platform automation with CI/CD pipelines, source control repositories, and release management processes.
- Automate API onboarding, policy enforcement, security validation, deployment verification, and operational readiness activities.
- Develop automated testing and validation for API configurations, governance standards, and platform compliance.
- Collaborate with software developers, platform engineers, and DevSecOps teams to improve deployment efficiency and consistency.
- Troubleshoot automation, deployment pipelines, configuration management, and platform integration issues.
- Support modernization initiatives, platform upgrades, migration efforts, and continuous process improvements.
- Develop technical documentation including automation guides, configuration standards, runbooks, and implementation documentation.
- Ensure automation solutions comply with federal cybersecurity requirements and organizational best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Five (5) or more years of experience developing automation solutions supporting enterprise applications, cloud platforms, or API management technologies.
- Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar automation tools.
- Experience integrating automation with CI/CD platforms including Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab, or comparable technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise API management, RESTful services, OpenAPI specifications, and software deployment automation.
- Strong problem-solving, scripting, and technical communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Kong, IBM webMethods, Azure API Management, MuleSoft, Apigee, AWS API Gateway, or similar enterprise API platforms.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates, or Ansible.
- Experience supporting Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or cloud-native platforms.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, GitOps, Zero Trust Architecture, and secure software delivery.
- Experience supporting Department of State, DoD, or other Federal agencies.
Clearance Requirement
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
