General Summary
McNair Scholars Program
Focus: Searching for a motivated student who is focused and interested in working with and mentoring undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate degrees. The student in this position will work closely with the Director and Assistant Director to plan, coordinate and execute workshops and events geared towards preparing students for graduate school. The person interested in this position should exhibit strong organization skills, oral and written communication skills, and should have an interest and ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals. Students who were formerly McNair scholars and those who have experience planning student events is preferred.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The student will work with Dr. Brown and Miaisha Peoples Miller to prepare students to apply and enroll in graduate school. Student will assist with logistics of the program, recruiting students and creating workshops.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.) Recruit McNair Scholars at campus-wide events
2.) Creation of program newsletter for campus, community, and monthly bulletins for students;
3.) Processing of student assignments during the McNair Research Internship;
4.) Co-teaches seminars during McNair Research Internship;
5.) Coordination of social and cultural activities;
6.) Maintenance of social networking sites;
7.) Responsible for filing and maintenance of student records;
8.) Organizes McNair photographs and records of activities;
9.) Assists in office management, telephone inquiries, and mail processing;
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills, instructional experience, excellent organizational skills, knowledge of publication software and core-business software (MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Some evenings and weekend work required.
Special Instructions:
Commitment: 20 hours per week during Fall 2026/2027 academic year. There is a possibility to continue the position additional semesters. Flexible work schedule (some weekend events required), expectation travel to conferences and meetings. Expenses for travel may be subsidized.
