Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center, Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) is recruiting a full-time (100% FTE) Clinical Lab Scientist, Level 2 for third shift. We seek motivated individuals with strong critical thinking, communication, and independent work skills. Experience in blood banking is preferred. Responsibilities include performing routine and complex quality control testing on blood and blood components, as well as high-level evaluation, review, and interpretation of test results. Candidates must be able to perform with minimal supervision, be proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval functions, and communicate effectively across departments.
Compensation and Schedule:
Sign on Bonus: $5,000
Starting pay range (based on experience): $31-38/hour
Shift Available: Third Shift (10-hour shifts) - 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Shift differential: $4/hour
On Call: Rotating on-call requirements

Essential Functions
- Provide continuity of services and resolutions for moderate to complex technical situations within the specialty.
- Assist in the provision of data for research and publications.
- Advise customers on methods and procedures to use.
- Provide technical explanations regarding results or products. Respond to other healthcare professionals' questions regarding results.
- Review and report testing, projects, and other assignments progress periodically as determined by the supervisor.
- Perform testing, interpret and record results. Perform quality control and proficiency testing. Communicate and report test results to external and internal customers.
- Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate.
- Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review.
- Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results.
- Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate.
- Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area.
- Assume on-call responsibilities as required.

Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science.
- Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), SBB(ASCP).

- Two (2) years of relevant experience.
