Planning Technician

Compensation: $30 to $35 Hourly

We are looking for a detail-oriented Planning Technician to support planning and permitting activities in Oregon. This contract position with potential for permanency blends administrative coordination, public-facing service, and technical document handling to help keep land use and zoning processes organized and responsive. The person in this role will work closely with internal staff and community members, ensuring applications, records, and planning information are handled accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the intake, tracking, and status updates of land use requests, permits, and related planning submissions.
• Provide front-line assistance to residents, applicants, and staff by answering questions related to zoning, addressing, and development procedures.
• Examine incoming applications for completeness and verify that submitted materials align with established guidelines and required criteria.
• Maintain accurate planning files, databases, mapping records, and address data to support daily operations and long-term record retention.
• Draft and distribute notices, routine correspondence, reports, and other documentation needed for planning projects and public processes.
• Research parcel details, zoning information, and property history to supply clear and timely information to internal teams and external customers.
• Support departmental administrative functions by organizing records, managing documentation, and helping prioritize multiple active requests.
• Use permitting and recordkeeping systems to enter data, retrieve information, and assist with workflow coordination across planning activities.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of relevant experience in planning support, permitting, records administration, database coordination, or a related field.
• Background using permitting or permit management software in a work setting.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with both the public and internal stakeholders.
• High level of organization and attention to detail when handling documents, data, and deadlines.
• Experience with data entry, records maintenance, and database systems.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, site plans, zoning details, and related property information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with municipal or planning-related systems is preferred.

Compensation

$30.00-$35.00 Hourly
