Sales & Use Tax Expert
Responsibilities:
• Oversee monthly sales and use tax filings across numerous states and entities, ensuring submissions are complete, timely, and accurate.
• Maintain and organize exemption certificate records, following up as needed to support compliance requirements and customer documentation needs.
• Investigate sales tax discrepancies in financial records and correct issues affecting the general ledger and related tax accounts.
• Prepare reconciliations for tax accounts and support month-end close activities with accurate journal entries and account analysis.
• Assist with audit requests by gathering documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with auditors and outside advisors.
• Work closely with customers, registered agents, and tax partners to address compliance questions and support reporting accuracy.
• Contribute to projects involving Avalara integrations, e-commerce tax configuration, and the alignment of tax processes across entities.
• Support banking and account reconciliation activities tied to tax reporting and help improve the reliability of financial data.
• Partner with accounting and finance teams using systems such as NetSuite and SAP to strengthen tax reporting and compliance workflows.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience handling multi-state sales and use tax compliance in a complex business environment.• Strong working knowledge of indirect tax processes, including filings, reconciliations, audit support, and exemption certificate management.
• Hands-on experience with Avalara and enterprise accounting platforms, including NetSuite; familiarity with SAP is also valuable.
• Ability to research tax issues, analyze general ledger activity, and resolve discrepancies with a high degree of accuracy.
• Experience supporting month-end close through journal entries, account reconciliations, and related accounting tasks.
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced setting with shifting priorities and project-based assignments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external advisors, auditors, and customers.
