Cost Accountant
We are looking for a Sr. Cost Accountant to join a manufacturing organization in Chatsworth, California. This position partners closely with operations, sales, and finance leaders to provide insight into inventory, product costs, margins, and overall business performance. The role also plays a key part in month-end activities, planning cycles, and financial reporting while helping maintain strong cost controls and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver regular analysis of operational and financial performance indicators to support business decision-making
• Coordinate cost accounting activities related to inventory counts and prepare the reports needed for reconciliation and review
• Monitor inventory balances, investigate scrap and adjustment activity, and help maintain accurate inventory records
• Develop manufacturing cost estimates and margin reporting to support pricing discussions and product line analysis
• Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, cost control efforts, financial review, and accounting process support
• Prepare analysis and reporting for annual budgets and quarterly forecasts to guide planning activities
• Maintain standard cost structures, cost pools, allocation methods, and labor and overhead rates for the business
• Produce recurring and ad hoc revenue, margin, variance, and product cost analysis for management
• Review project, production order, and work order settlements, then investigate variances and follow up on outstanding issues
• Assist with internal controls and provide support during finance and Sarbanes-Oxley audit activities
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting• At least 3 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, business analysis, forecasting, or a related accounting function
• Prior accounting experience within a manufacturing environment is required
• Working knowledge of standard costing, cost analysis, inventory accounting, and month-end close procedures
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and practical experience using ERP systems
• Ability to explain cost roll concepts, including bills of materials and engineering routings
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while collaborating effectively across teams
