Description
The purpose of the Research Assistant position is to serve as a solid state chemistry researcher who will explore the structural changes during the synthesis of solid oxides via diffraction methods. The Research Assistant will perform Rietveld refinements on synchrotron diffraction data to understand reaction intermediates. It is expected that the Research Assistant will generate a quantitative summary of all crystallographic phases present.
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties
- Performs Rietveld refinements independently using TOPAS Academic software, producing accurate quantitative crystallographic analyses in support of laboratory research and testing activities on a daily basis.
- Prepares and delivers verbal presentations of quantitative analytical results using Microsoft PowerPoint, communicating findings clearly and accurately to project teams and stakeholders on a weekly basis.
- Prepares written quantitative analysis reports using Microsoft Excel and other standard documentation tools, producing accurate, complete, and timely reports to support laboratory operations and decision-making on a weekly basis.
- Maintains complete and accurate digital documentation of laboratory processes in accordance with the laboratory Data Management Plan using Microsoft OneNote and Dropbox, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and compliance with established recordkeeping requirements on a daily basis and with minimal supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing Rietveld refinements using synchrotron diffraction.
EDUCATION:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
