Department Overview
Dialysis nurses provide care to all ages and a diversified population ranging from acute to chronically ill patients while adhering to strict, dynamic regulatory standards. During the hemodialysis (HD) procedure, the nurse is managing the patient’s clinical status, the venous access, the infusion of blood components or specialized fluids, and oversees the technical aspects of the HD machines.
Function/Duties of PositionResponsibilities include providing patient/family/public education, overseeing dialysis technicians in the performance of dialysis from start to finish, performing surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water (such as chlorine, hardness, conductivity, water cultures), and participating in quality improvement activities to include collection of data for the dialysis unit Quality Assurance Improvement (QAI) plan. The Dialysis Department regular service hours are from 0700—1900 Monday thru Saturday with mandatory on-call service Monday thru Saturday 1900—0700 and all day on Sunday and holidays. Scheduling is flexible with call being shared among regular staff. Dialysis RNs will provide services to pediatric and adult patient population serving both hospitals.
Department Specific Working Conditions: Exposure includes blood, body fluids, blood products, medications, and radiation.

Required Qualifications
- One year experience in adult dialysis procedures required or
- One year experience in dialysis, including past dialysis technician experience
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in pediatric dialysis procedures preferred
• Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN), Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred
