Baker Engineering, LLC’s (Baker) core business centers around the design and development of high-tech, high-performance technologies for a variety of applications, from custom military and commercial engines, to engine components, to the production of parts and mechanical assemblies for other industries. Baker is a division of Waséyabek Development Company, LLC that is wholly owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, a Federally recognized Indian Tribe.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Manager provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for a multi-disciplinary engineering team. This role balances people management, project execution, and stakeholder communication to deliver high-quality technical solutions. The Engineering Manager serves as a key bridge between internal technical teams and external customers, ensuring project alignment, driving professional growth, and maintaining resource responsibilities across all engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Personal Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse, multi-disciplinary technical team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide continuous feedback.
  • Establish clear career paths and individual development plans for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

Project Technical Execution Oversight

  • Oversee the technical execution of complex engineering projects from concept to delivery.
  • Ensure engineering outputs meet strict quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Remove technical roadblocks and facilitate cross-functional problem-solving.
  • Review and approve technical designs, architectures, and documentation.

Customer Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Translate complex customer requirements into actionable engineering goals.
  • Present technical updates, project milestones, and risk mitigation strategies to clients.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with customers to secure future business opportunities.

Technical Direction and Quality Standards

  • Set engineering standards for structure and execution of programs
  • Review and approve key technical designs
  • Create standardized tools for engineering tasks
  • Participate in technical reviews

Resource Planning & Budget Management

  • Forecast staffing needs to balance availability with demand and skills requirements
  • Monitor staffing billable utilization
  • Develop, track, and manage the engineering department and project budgets.
  • Forecast long-term financial needs for tooling, training, and headcount.
  • Monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with financial targets.

Other Responsibilities

  • Reporting and oversight of KPI’s for engineering team
  • Interfaces with manufacturing and assembly teams
  • Perform CAD design utilizing Creo software (multiple modules) when needed
  • Write proposals and reports
  • Other duties as requested by upper management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Leadership experience in a collaborative environment
  • Creo software experience – latest version
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (at minimum)
  • Hands-on engineering skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Combustion engine experience
  • Ability to manage projects and people
  • US citizen/ITAR compliant
