Department Overview

As a Research Sonographer, this individual is responsible for sonography specific to OBGYN (both in pregnancy and outside of pregnancy) and research activities/training requirements related to the management of patients in clinical research. Candidates must be able to perform the required duties listed below at a highly technical level requiring limited or no supervision. The sonographer will maintain a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated. Applicant must work independently to produce high quality imaging on adolescent to adult age patients using a variety of modalities including - Abdominal and Transvaginal (including 3D) ultrasound. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Position is typically Monday - Friday, 0800-1700, but may include rare evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as required per study protocol(s). This position will be based in Portland, OR primarily at the Marquam Hill campus. Position may require travel to off-site partnership locations around the state of Oregon. Must be experienced and registered in sonography.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Trials Patient Contact 

  • Completion of research protocol ultrasound per individual study protocol requirements as delegated by the Principal Investigator
  • Responsible for patient interactions as outlined in protocol and as delegated by Principal Investigator
  • Perform ultrasound image acquisition and measurements as outlined in the study protocol
  • Ensure complex ultrasound image acquisition is completed in a patient-centered fashion to minimize duration of study visits and maximize participant comfort

Regulatory Compliance & Administrative

  • Completion of study specific regulatory training requirements per OHSU research standards
  • Training per individual study protocol(s) requirements
  • Formal certification as required by any study protocols

Required Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Non-Invasive Ultrasound from an approved and accredited program Equivalent combination of education, formal training and work experience
  • Board Certification or eligibility for certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)  Sonographer license issued by Oregon Board of Medical Imaging. Active registration must be maintained with continuing medical education units (CME’s) on an ongoing basis
  • In-person patient care experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • Clinical Trials experience

  • Women’s Health specific experience

  • Previous work with physicians in an academic environment. Epic, Outlook, eIRB, OHSU systems.
  • Spanish

Additional Details

Weekday position that may rarely include weekend and holiday call coverage. Position may require travel to off-site partnership locations around the state of Oregon. Reliable transportation and flexible schedule is essential.  May be required to work evenings or weekends for on-call coverage.

 

Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions including possible exposure to blood and body fluids for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk.
