Position Description

The mental health counselor will be an essential team member of the brand-new, state-of-the-art Relational Health Center. Within this Center, the employee will work within an innovative, stepped-care model that includes outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization mental health services. The employee will work with a team of interdisciplinary clinicians to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for children, adolescents, and families.

The employee will conduct assessments and provide individual, family, and group therapy services to child and adolescent patients and their caregivers to address various mental health and wellness-related issues.

This is a two-year advanced training position designed to provide post-master's clinical training and professional development. Upon successful completion of the two years, there is potential for a full-time position within the Center based on performance, departmental needs, and available funding.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Administer and interpret assessments and measures.
  • Develop treatment plans, in accordance with established standards, consistent with assessment, and in conjunction with patients and family, to include goals, intervention, necessary support or referral service.
  • Lead evidence-based individual, family, and group psychological interventions with child/adolescent patients and their caregivers.
  • Identify patients with urgent mental health conditions (e.g., suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, etc.), respond and refer appropriately.
  • Consult and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and staff.
  • Maintain communication (verbal and written) with caregivers, school personnel, primary care providers, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and updated documentation of assessments, interventions, and recommendations, and discharge plans.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical supervisor.
  • Update monthly productivity reports.
  • Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, supervision, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on special committees.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the department and Covenant Children's Hospital.


Occasional Duties

  • Complete additional duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field. 3 years of related experience.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate (LPC - A), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) must be working towards LCSW, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist - Associate (LMFT-A), Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting.
