Billing Rate Analyst
Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate billing rate records for clients, matters, and timekeepers, including negotiated pricing terms and key effective periods.
• Review non-standard fee arrangements, track exceptions, and coordinate approved updates to ensure billing data remains current.
• Process rate adjustments for timekeepers and assist with recalculating unbilled work when pricing changes affect open time entries.
• Contribute to annual and ad hoc rate review cycles by validating data, preparing supporting information, and helping implement approved revisions.
• Analyze billing rate variances and exception scenarios, then prepare reports that support decision-making and operational follow-through.
• Respond to questions regarding billing rates and communicate updates clearly to attorneys, billing personnel, and administrative stakeholders.
• Partner with finance and operations teams to strengthen billing workflows, support special assignments, and promote adherence to internal policies.
• Use billing and financial systems, including Aderant or comparable platforms, to enter updates and monitor the accuracy of rate-related information.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience in billing, rate administration, or a related finance support role.• Background in a law firm or legal services environment is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related discipline is preferred; comparable relevant experience will also be considered.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies, interpret rate agreements, and resolve issues efficiently.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and discretion when working with confidential financial information.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across legal, billing, and administrative teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Aderant or another computerized billing system is preferred.
Compensation
