Payroll Specialist

Saint Paul, MN 55108, US Temporary
Compensation: $24.54 to $28.41 Hourly

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a construction and contractor organization in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage complex payroll activities across multiple pay groups while maintaining compliance with tax, wage, and deduction requirements. The role works closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, Sales, and Operations to resolve pay-related issues, improve reporting accuracy, and support payroll system effectiveness.


Responsibilities:

• Administer biweekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees, including bonus and commission payments, and complete reviews to confirm accuracy before final processing.

• Enter and validate additional earnings such as incentive pay, retroactive adjustments, reimbursements, and other special compensation items.

• Manage court-ordered and statutory deductions, including garnishments, tax levies, and child support, in accordance with federal and state regulations.

• Prepare off-cycle and manual payments for terminations, corrections, and other payroll exceptions while following company guidelines.

• Complete year-end payroll balancing activities and assist with W-2 preparation and related reconciliations.

• Perform payroll reporting, record maintenance, and administrative tasks required to support each payroll cycle and maintain audit readiness.

• Partner with internal teams across HR, Finance, Accounting, Sales, and Operations to address payroll questions and resolve issues that affect employee compensation.

• Conduct regular audits and data integrity reviews within payroll records, prepare compliance-related reporting, and support required federal, state, and survey submissions.

• Assist with payroll system enhancements, user training, documentation, and process improvements to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and employee self-service support.

• Investigate payroll discrepancies, research root causes, and recommend policy or procedural updates that improve the employee experience and departmental effectiveness.

Qualifications:

• Experience processing full-cycle payroll for both exempt and nonexempt employee populations.
• Background handling multi-state payroll with working knowledge of payroll tax and wage deduction requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll platforms such as Paycor and Paychex.
• Ability to process biweekly payroll accurately in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
• Knowledge of commissions, bonuses, retro pay, reimbursements, and other supplemental earnings calculations.
• Experience administering garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other involuntary deductions.
• Strong auditing, reconciliation, and reporting skills with the ability to identify and correct payroll discrepancies.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate payroll information clearly.

Compensation

$24.54-$28.41 Hourly
