Staff Accountant
Responsibilities:
• Manage accounting activities related to grant funding, including tracking and reporting for federal and state awards.
• Prepare journal entries, maintain general ledger accuracy, and support routine accounting operations.
• Assist with month-end close by reconciling accounts, reviewing balances, and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Perform balance sheet and account reconciliations to ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
• Use Excel tools such as formulas, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables to analyze transactions and prepare financial schedules.
• Support tax-related accounting tasks, including areas connected to corporate and sales tax reporting.
• Help monitor grant expenditures against approved funding and maintain documentation for audit readiness.
• Contribute to ongoing financial reporting and provide accounting support for day-to-day departmental needs.
Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of experience in accounting, with a strong background in grant accounting.• Experience working with both federal and state grant funding and related financial reporting requirements.
• Proficiency in general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliation, and month-end close support.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables.
• Familiarity with Sage is preferred.
• Knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and related accounting practices is a plus.
• Ability to work onsite in Newark, New Jersey during standard business hours.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and efficiently.
Compensation
