Description
The Behavior Specialist supports site supervisors and instructors with student behavior analysis and ongoing monitoring of students who require support plans in order to sustain positive participation of these students in the program. The primary responsibility of the Behavior Specialist is to assist their Site Coordinator and site staff in assisting with day-to-day behavior issues with students enrolled in the after-school program. They work collaboratively with the site academic program supervisor (APS) and site supervisor in the development and implementation of individualized behavior support plans, as well as aid in the development of flexible schedules for students that need it. They work closely with the program staff to help train and assist in the development and implantation of individualized behavior support plans for students that need them. They will assist the Buena Park Titans After School Program and ensure that a high-quality after school program for children is consistently delivered to our students between TK-5th grade.
Must be available to work five (5) days a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30PM-5:45PM; Thursday 12:00PM-5:45PM
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties
- Help oversee at elementary school site(s) servicing grades TK-5th with any behavior student needs and support.
- Responsible for the supervision of the students participating in the program, as well as the Titans staff at those sites.
- Assist in training staff in positive behavior techniques.
- Train supervisors and staff on procedures and policies geared towards behavior modification, classroom instruction and engaging enrichment activities.
- Attend weekly staff site meetings.
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend weekly APS/Titans supervisor meeting
- Attend if requested / needed site principal / Titan supervisor monthly meeting
- Attend if requested / needed Parent / APS / Titan meeting
- Communicate with upper administration at school district
- Assist in weekly site meetings as needed
- Expected to conduct daily classroom visits to help behavior strategy coaching
- Expected to conduct daily classroom visits to observe students that need extra assistance due to behavior and assimilation into the program.
- Able to train staff/supervisors on disciplinary procedures regarding students
- May be required to attend upper management/administrator meetings with the district
- May be required to attend upper management program supervisor meetings
- Ability to assist and develop training modules that are catered to early grade staff
- Provides and implements training for TK-5th grade staff.
- Follows all human resource policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all licensing standards and state and federal regulations.
- Helps develop and create Titans After School Program documents.
Qualifications
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Understanding of behavior management and effective disciplinary techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience creating lesson plans for TK-5th grade students
- Experience working with TK-5th grade students
- Must be technologically proficient
- Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills.
- Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel) and Google Drive (i.e. Docs, Sheets).
- Must be flexible, team oriented, child focused, and wanting to make a difference in children’s lives.
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have taken a minimum of six (6) units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
