Job Summary/Basic Function:
Wheaton College is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Adjunct Instructor of Dance to teach a 100-level introductory Ballet course.
Our 100-level courses welcome a diverse group of students, ranging from absolute beginners discovering ballet for the first time to experienced dancers looking to maintain their technique. The ideal candidate will foster an inclusive, supportive, and physically safe studio environment that celebrates movement, promotes proper alignment, and introduces students to the foundational history and artistry of ballet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach the 100-level Ballet course according to the scheduled class times.
  • Develop a comprehensive syllabus that introduces foundational ballet technique, barre and center work, terminology, and basic dance history.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students of all skill levels and body types.
  • Assess student progress, participation, and growth throughout the semester, and submit final grades in a timely manner.
  • Maintain brief, professional communication with the Creative Arts department chair regarding student engagement and logistics.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: BFA in Dance or a related field preferred; or equivalent professional performing/teaching experience.
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching ballet (strong studio background will be considered).



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education:MFA in Dance or a related field preferred; or equivalent professional performing/teaching experience.
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching ballet at the collegiate level background strongly preferred.
  • Inclusivity: A proven commitment to teaching diverse student populations and adapting instruction for various skill and fitness levels.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for mentorship within a liberal arts setting.



Compensation and Benefits:

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $5,000/course.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate.
