Position: R&D Chemist V
Location: Headquarters – Moon Township, PA

Hours of work: Mondays - Fridays, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 40 Hours/Week
The R&D Chemist V will serve as a key investigator responsible for identifying, developing, and commercializing next generation activated carbon products, processes, and applications. The position drives innovation in emerging markets but also supports existing manufacturing and product portfolios. The incumbent will work directly with customers, commercial teams, manufacturing, and external partners to drive technologies that contribute to company growth. The candidate should possess the flexibility to work individually and in teams, while potentially mentoring younger team members. Finally, the incumbent is expected to execute several projects at various stages of completion simultaneously, while responding to frequent changes in priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
- Serve as an expert in select domains of activated carbon technology
- Generate intellectual property through invention disclosures, patent applications, and technical publications where appropriate
- Communicate with customers in support of existing products and incorporate their feedback into new product development efforts
- Interact with and incorporate feedback from internal sales, marketing, and manufacturing groups
- Maintain technical leadership by actively engaging scientific literature and patent reviews
- Manage projects devoted to new product development and product technical/manufacturing support
- Direct the work of others as required, exercise solid leadership skills, and engage in team building where appropriate
- At lab scale level, modify or create activated carbon products or processes to meet new market needs
- Estimate the business potential of the new products or processes
- Conduct or support plant-scale trials to drive new products to market quickly
- Leverage fundamental adsorption principles to support and enhance existing modeling capabilities
- Apply or use tools for advanced data or statistical analysis
Qualifications
- An advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or a closely related field is required
- Ph.D. strongly preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, adsorption science, or related engineering disciplines is required
- 3-5 years of activated carbon and chemistry fundamentals, techniques, and test methods is required
- 7-10 years of R&D experience with demonstrated innovation and problem-solving capabilities is required
- Experience in activated carbon, adsorbents, catalysts, porous materials, separations, or related fields is preferred
- Experience with characterization techniques such as adsorption analysis, BET surface area, pore structure characterization, thermal process or analysis, spectroscopy and related techniques is preferred
- Understanding of advanced data analysis or statistical methods is preferred
