Job Description:

Roger Williams University's Marketing & Communications (MarCom) team seeks a creative, organized, and collaborative Social Media Content Coordinator to manage the University's day-to-day social media presence and serve as the operational link among the Communications, Marketing, and Creative Services teams. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing, this position coordinates the planning, creation, publishing, and performance of content across the University's official social media channels, ensuring every post aligns with institutional priorities, brand standards, and campaign objectives.

Working within the University's centralized client-service model, this role partners with communications professionals, marketing strategists, designers, photographers, videographers, and academic and administrative partners to translate university stories into engaging digital content. The Social Media Content Coordinator oversees the execution of the university's social media calendar, identifies emerging storytelling opportunities, monitors audience engagement, and helps ensure consistent messaging across undergraduate recruitment, graduate recruitment, the School of Law, Extension School, Advancement, CEED, and institutional brand initiatives.

This is an entry-level, on-campus position requiring flexibility to capture campus life, major events, and university announcements, including occasional evening and weekend work.

Key Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy & Coordination

  • Coordinate the University's day-to-day social media presence across all official institutional channels.
  • Manage the university-wide social media content calendar in collaboration across the university.
  • Coordinate content priorities to ensure alignment with recruitment, advancement, news, events, and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain consistent messaging, visual identity, accessibility standards, and brand voice across all social platforms.
  • Assist in implementing the University's social media strategy under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications & Media Relations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary coordinator between Communications, Marketing, Creative Services, and multimedia production teams for social media initiatives.
  • Work closely with communications staff to amplify university news, media coverage, presidential communications, crisis messaging, and institutional announcements.
  • Collaborate with marketing leads to support enrollment, advancement, campaign, and event promotions.
  • Coordinate content requests and priorities from client-service teams while maintaining an organized production schedule.

Content Creation & Publishing

  • Create and edit engaging short-form video, photography, graphics, and written content optimized for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, and emerging platforms.
  • Capture real-time campus experiences, student life, academic programs, research, and signature events.
  • Publish and schedule content across multiple social media platforms using approved scheduling tools.
  • Support integrated marketing campaigns by producing timely, social-first content.

Community Engagement & Reputation Monitoring

  • Manage daily community engagement across university social channels.
  • Monitor comments, direct messages, and audience conversations, responding appropriately or escalating issues to Communications leadership as needed.
  • Track social sentiment and identify opportunities for proactive storytelling or reputational awareness.
  • Support institutional crisis communications through coordinated social media messaging when needed.

Analytics & Performance

  • Monitor engagement metrics, audience growth, reach, and content performance.
  • Prepare regular performance reports and recommend improvements based on audience insights and platform trends.
  • Stay current on emerging social media trends, platform updates, social listening, and best practices to continuously improve engagement and effectiveness.

Content Planning & Editorial Coordination

  • Participate in editorial planning meetings and campaign development.
  • Coordinate social media coverage of university events, admissions activities, advancement initiatives, and campus milestones.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose photography, video, news stories, and multimedia assets across platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized archive of social media assets and digital content.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • One to three years of professional experience in social media, digital communications, marketing, or multimedia content creation.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts and content calendars.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, social media scheduling platforms, and content management tools.
  • Strong photography and short-form video production skills.
  • Excellent written communication and copywriting skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media analytics and performance reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and SEO best practices.
  • Experience supporting integrated marketing campaigns.
