Your New Role and Responsibilities
Leidos Australia supports the Military Survey activity of the SEA1770 Rapid Environmental Assessment project for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). We provide the RAN with underwater hydrographic data to help ships manoeuvre and deploy safely in unknown maritime environments.
Leidos is seeking a capable and hands-on Senior Electronics Technician to support the ongoing operation and maintenance of advanced maritime and defence systems used by the Royal Australian Navy. This role is ideally suited to an experienced Electronics Technician, Communications Technician, Field Service Representative, or technical maintenance professional with a strong background in electronics, communications, IT systems, and preventative maintenance.
You will play a key role in ensuring the operational readiness of critical maritime capabilities, supporting sophisticated technologies including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), hydrographic survey systems, communications equipment, and associated IT infrastructure. Working closely with engineers and technical specialists, you will deliver preventative maintenance, configuration management, documentation, and system support activities that contribute directly to the success of Defence and maritime operations.
This position will:
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities across maritime, communications, and electronic systems.
- Execute scheduled maintenance tasks and maintain Objective Quality Evidence (OQE), including work records, photographic evidence, and required documentation.
- Support configuration management activities, including hardware and software updates, system configuration, and cyber-hardening requirements.
- Conduct fault finding, testing, inspection, and tagging of equipment, cables, and system components.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules to ensure equipment remains available, reliable, and mission ready.
- Support the management of IT hardware and software environments across a range of operational systems.
- Work closely with engineering and technical teams to resolve issues and maintain system performance.
- Provide professional support within a customer-facing Defence environment while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact
- Experience in electronics, communications, field service, or technical maintenance roles.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance experience within electronic, communications, or IT-based systems.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance schedules and executing maintenance activities in a structured environment.
- Knowledge of configuration management, IT hardware support, software whitelisting, and/or cyber-hardening practices.
- Experience maintaining technical documentation, work orders, compliance records, and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE).
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of maintenance activities, and manage competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the professionalism required to operate in a customer-facing Defence environment.
- The ability to adapt to changing workloads and work collaboratively within a small, highly supportive team.
Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application. We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.
