Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is seeking a Safety Engineer in our Colorado Springs, CO office (COCO-01).  Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. Develop safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements. Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program. Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions. Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.

  • Educational background in Safety Engineering, or related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor of Science; OR at least 3 Years of relevant experience with a master’s degree; OR 1 Year with a PhD degree.

  • 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Familiarity with safety requirements compliance with MIL-STD-1472H, AFMAN standards for program execution

  • Demonstrated ability in the application of MIL-STD-882E to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards

  • Experience documenting hazards with a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System (HTS)

  • Ability to apply system safety engineering principles to develop safety documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, e.g., SSPP, SAR, and Software Safety Analyses

  • Familiarity with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers and work independently

  • Cross-IPT Collaboration 

  • Expertise with MS Office tool suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs

  • This position requires full-time on site at the COCO-01 facility (standard work schedule is a 9/80)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MBSE Modeling (Cameo Enterprise Architecture)

  • Familiarity with Radar systems and operations

  • Familiarity in Agile methodology (Kanban, Scrum, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Familiarity with Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Familiarity with SharePoint

  • Experience in fast-paced work environment

  • Experience with system engineering processes and tools (DOORS preferred)

  • Experience in system modeling tools (i.e., CORE, Rhapsody, PTC Integrity Modeler, Cameo)

  • Working Knowledge of military system safety and process standards and their industry equivalent, e.g., MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1472, ASTM, ANSI, OSHA, PESHE, NFPA, FCC

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
