Accounting Specialist

We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join a contract-to-permanent opportunity in Buffalo, New York. This position is suited for an accounting specialist who enjoys contributing across a range of financial processes while working in a dynamic client-focused environment. The role offers the chance to support essential accounting operations, strengthen reporting accuracy, and assist with projects that improve financial workflows.

Responsibilities:
• Handle daily accounting activities, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts to maintain a reliable and organized general ledger.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing tasks, including reviewing balances and resolving variances.
• Process invoices, payments, receivables, and billing activity while helping maintain strong cash flow controls.
• Compile financial reports and supporting documentation for leadership review and operational planning.
• Contribute to budgeting support, forecast updates, and audit preparation by organizing data and responding to information requests.
• Review financial information to identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and recommend corrective action.
• Support accounting-related projects such as process enhancements, system updates, and workflow improvements while maintaining compliance with established standards.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of accounting experience, including hands-on work with reconciliations and financial records.
• Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and other core accounting functions.
• Ability to prepare and review general ledger activity with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new accounting systems and tools.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a business setting that requires attention to detail.
• Capacity to adjust quickly to changing priorities and new work environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

Compensation

$26.60-$30.80 Hourly
