Controller

We are looking for a Controller to lead accounting and financial oversight for a portfolio of residential and commercial properties in Auburn, Massachusetts. This role will guide core finance activities, strengthen reporting accuracy, and support business planning across property operations and development initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work closely with leadership on budgeting, cash management, and long-term financial strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting operations across multiple entities, including payables, receivables, general ledger activity, job costing, and month-end close processes.

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for several properties, ensuring timely delivery and consistency across entities.

• Supervise a small accounting team, providing direction and review for core bookkeeping and accounts payable activities.

• Establish and maintain internal control practices that reduce financial risk and create a stronger accounting framework.

• Build financial models and development pro formas for upcoming residential projects and collaborate with lenders on financing approaches.

• Review cash flow, project costs, and overall financial performance to help leadership make informed operational and investment decisions.

• Coordinate intercompany accounting activity and support consolidated financial reporting across related businesses.

• Partner with tax advisors and internal stakeholders to support compliant, tax-efficient planning strategies.

• Assist with payroll compliance matters as a backup resource, including prevailing wage when needed.

• Work closely with land acquisition and construction teams on budgeting, job cost analysis, and financial review of active projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing finances across multiple entities; real estate or construction industry exposure is highly valued.
• Strong understanding of job costing, project-based accounting, and financial statement preparation.
• Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, cash flow monitoring, and month-end close procedures.
• Familiarity with U.S. GAAP and standard financial controls and compliance practices.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with Premier is beneficial.
• Organized, collaborative, and comfortable taking a hands-on approach to day-to-day financial operations.

Compensation

$150,000.00-$175,000.00 Yearly
