Controller
We are looking for a Controller to lead the accounting and financial activities for a multi-location funeral services organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. This role works closely with the President to deliver accurate financial insight, maintain strong administrative processes, and support day-to-day business operations. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach to financial management, sound judgment, and the ability to keep multiple priorities organized in a centralized accounting environment.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with the President by producing financial reports, summaries, and analysis that support business planning and operational decisions.
• Direct core accounting activities, including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and overall financial documentation.
• Administer payroll through QuickBooks Assisted Payroll and ensure payroll taxes, filings, and related obligations are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Monitor company bank accounts, oversee cash flow activity, and manage corporate credit card programs with appropriate controls and oversight.
• Prepare and submit monthly sales tax filings while maintaining records that support annual corporate tax preparation.
• Generate and distribute funeral service invoices, track outstanding balances, and follow up on collections to improve timely payment.
• Work closely with funeral directors and office staff across all locations to promote consistent accounting practices and support daily operational needs.
• Coordinate with the external IT and network support provider to address system-related issues affecting accounting and administrative workflows.
• Manage licensing renewals and regulatory documentation for funeral home operations and licensed funeral directors.
• Maintain financial records for affiliated small businesses and strengthen internal controls that support compliance and organizational efficiency.

Qualifications:
• Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting operations in a controller or senior accounting capacity.• Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, bank reconciliations, and general ledger oversight.
• Experience processing payroll and handling related tax filings, preferably using QuickBooks Assisted Payroll or similar systems.
• Ability to prepare financial reports, maintain organized records, and support annual tax documentation requirements.
• Familiarity with sales tax reporting, cash management, and credit card administration.
• Strong document management skills, including compiling, scanning, and maintaining accurate financial and administrative records.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with leadership and staff across multiple locations while managing competing priorities.
• High attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
Compensation
