Controller (Plant)
Brad Stewart with Robert Half Finance & Accounting is recruiting for a Plant Controller to provide financial leadership for our manufacturing operation in Fernley, Nevada. This role partners closely with plant leadership to strengthen financial performance through reliable reporting, thoughtful analysis, and practical business guidance. The ideal candidate will oversee core accounting activities, support planning and forecasting, and help maintain strong controls and regulatory compliance across the facility.
Responsibilities:
• Direct plant finance activities, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis, to support informed operational and strategic decisions.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, then present clear insights and performance trends to plant and corporate leadership.
• Evaluate operating results against budget and forecast, identify key drivers of variances, and recommend actions to improve cost performance and efficiency.
• Manage manufacturing cost accounting processes by assessing product costs, labor usage, overhead, raw materials, maintenance spending, and inventory performance.
• Oversee the general ledger, journal entry review, account reconciliations, and month-end close to ensure accurate and timely financial records.
• Administer fixed asset and capital expenditure accounting, including depreciation, asset tracking, and related financial reporting requirements.
• Supervise payroll review, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and cash control practices to protect company assets.
• Lead and develop the accounting team by setting goals, coaching performance, promoting cross-training, and building succession readiness.
• Maintain effective internal controls and coordinate audit activity while ensuring adherence to GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, company policies, and applicable regulations.
• Prepare required governmental and industry-related financial reports, including tax and compliance filings relevant to the facility.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience leading or supervising staff in an accounting or finance environment.
• Background in manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing and analysis of production variances.
• Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting processes in a plant or manufacturing setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Dynamics, and other business or accounting software.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Ability to interpret financial data, communicate findings clearly, and support operational decision-making.
Compensation
