Position Description

Summary

The IT Specialist supports NW Construction's technology systems and users by providing technical support, maintaining business systems, and assisting with technology initiatives across the organization. This role helps ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the technology used to support employees in the office, field, and remote locations.

The position provides exposure to a broad range of information technology disciplines including end-user support, Microsoft 365, systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, and infrastructure management. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, enjoys solving problems, and is motivated to continuously learn and develop new skills.


About NW Construction

NW Construction is a Heavy Civil Construction Contractor based in Bozeman, Montana. NWC specializes in heavy civil construction, taking on projects both large and small. Our work encompasses many areas of the construction industry, including but not limited to: Dams, Hydroelectric, RCC, Concrete, Large and Small Diameter Piping, Sheet Piling, Site Work, Utilities, Slurry Walls, Demolition, Marine, Environmental Work, Drill and Shoot and Aggregate Processing. Project sites are generally located in Montana and the western United States.


Location

This position is full-time onsite at our home office, located in Bozeman, MT.

Essential Functions

User Support

  1. Support employees with technology needs across office and field operations.
  2. Configure, deploy, maintain, and replace end-user technology equipment.
  3. Assist with user onboarding, offboarding, account setup, and access changes.
  4. Support Microsoft 365 applications and related business systems.

Systems & Infrastructure Support

  1. Assist with the maintenance and operation of business technology systems.
  2. Participate in system upgrades, software deployments, and technology initiatives.
  3. Monitor system health, backup processes, and operational alerts.
  4. Assist with the implementation and support of infrastructure and business technology solutions.
  5. Apply and expand technical skills through hands-on involvement with business systems, infrastructure, and technology initiatives.

Security & Compliance

  1. Follow established cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices.
  2. Assist with security initiatives, technology improvements, and remediation efforts.
  3. Help maintain accurate documentation of systems, processes, and technology assets.
  4. Support business continuity and disaster recovery activities.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  1. Collaborate with employees, managers, vendors, and technology partners to resolve issues and improve services.
  2. Document support requests, troubleshooting steps, and technical procedures.
  3. Research solutions to technical problems and recommend improvements when appropriate.
  4. Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills through hands-on experience, training, and self-directed learning.

Work Environment

  1. Office-based position supporting corporate and field operations.
  2. Regular use of computers, mobile devices, software applications, and related technology systems.
  3. Frequent collaboration with employees, managers, vendors, and technology partners, both in-person and remotely.
  4. Work involves a combination of planned project work and day-to-day troubleshooting activities.
  5. Occasional travel to project sites to support technology needs.
  6. Successful candidates should be comfortable learning new technologies and adapting to changing business priorities.
  7. Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment with occasional visits to active construction sites.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  1. Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. One (1) to three (3) years of professional experience supporting technology systems, business applications, or end users in a business environment.
  3. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical individuals.
  5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  8. Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to project sites.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience supporting technology in a business environment.
  2. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications and services.
  3. Familiarity with Windows desktop and server operating systems.
  4. Basic understanding of networking concepts and business technology systems.
  5. Exposure to systems administration, infrastructure, cybersecurity, virtualization, or backup technologies.
  6. Experience documenting technical procedures, solutions, and support activities.
  7. Experience working with third-party technology vendors and service providers.
  8. Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft, or similar certifications.


Physical Requirements

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  2. Ability to operate computers, mobile devices, and related technology equipment.
  3. Ability to lift, carry, and move technology equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  4. Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, reach, or work in confined spaces while installing or supporting technology equipment.
  5. Ability to travel occasionally to project sites to support technology needs.
  6. Ability to safely navigate office environments and active construction sites.
  7. Ability to safely and effectively perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
