Description

CABLE PROCESS ENGINEER

Drive Innovation in Advanced Cable Manufacturing

Join Samtec and Shape the Future of Connectivity

At Samtec, we are passionate about solving complex engineering challenges and delivering cutting-edge interconnect solutions that power tomorrow's technology. We are seeking a Cable Process Engineer who thrives on innovation, continuous improvement, and data-driven problem solving. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the development and optimization of advanced cable manufacturing processes while working alongside highly skilled engineers, operations teams, and technology partners.

If you're energized by turning complex manufacturing challenges into scalable solutions and enjoy bringing new products from concept to high-volume production, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Cable Process Engineer, you will be a key technical leader responsible for advancing Samtec's cable assembly and termination manufacturing capabilities. You will develop robust, repeatable processes that improve quality, increase throughput, and support the launch of next-generation products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead process development and optimization initiatives for cable assembly and termination technologies, including laser welding, resistance welding, induction soldering, and other advanced joining methods.
  • Design and execute structured problem-solving experiments using DOE, 8D, 5 Whys, Six Sigma DMAIC, and other analytical methodologies.
  • Establish process windows, manufacturing standards, best practices, and work instructions that improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop validation, qualification, and process control strategies to ensure products are production-ready and capable of meeting demanding customer requirements.
  • Analyze manufacturing data using statistical tools and software such as Minitab and Excel to identify opportunities for quality and yield improvements.
  • Drive root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions that reduce variation and improve process capability.
  • Partner with suppliers and technology providers to evaluate and implement emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Collaborate with product development, engineering, quality, and operations teams to ensure new products and processes transition smoothly into manufacturing.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for process performance, providing technical guidance across the organization.
  • Present project updates, recommendations, and technical findings to stakeholders and leadership teams.

What Makes You Successful

You are a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving difficult manufacturing challenges through experimentation, analysis, and collaboration. You combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and have a passion for continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience supporting the design, development, or manufacturing of complex electromechanical products.
  • Experience successfully launching new products and manufacturing processes into production environments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, manufacturing processes, and process optimization techniques.
  • Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis and data-driven decision making.
  • Experience with process development, troubleshooting, constraint analysis, flow optimization, process validation, and manufacturing improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and process capability studies using tools such as Minitab and Excel.
  • Knowledge of process control methodologies, manufacturability principles, assembly processes, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Experience applying Six Sigma, DMAIC, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with laser processing, resistance welding, materials processing, or related manufacturing technologies.
  • Knowledge of alternative joining technologies such as ultrasonic welding, induction soldering, or similar processes.
  • Experience developing high-speed cable and connector assemblies.
  • Background in high-volume manufacturing and process scalability.

Why Join Samtec?
