Responsibilities
While RS&H was founded in 1941, we have been providing construction management services as one of our primary business practices since 1984. RS&H’s Transportation-Construction Management Practice serves numerous state departments of transportation, mobility/transportation authorities, turnpike/toll authorities, rail/port authorities, municipal/county governments, and private clients throughout the United States. Our Construction Engineering and Inspections (CEI) teams as well as our Construction Management teams are industry leading experts who provide a full range of construction engineering, program management, specialized testing, and inspection services from the preconstruction phase through maintenance and operations. Qualifications
RS&H is seeking an experienced and dynamic Michigan Bridge Inspection Area Leader to support the continued growth of our national bridge inspection and preservation practice. This leadership role is responsible for expanding RS&H's bridge inspection presence throughout Michigan while providing technical leadership, project management, quality oversight, business development, and staff mentorship.
The Michigan Area Leader will serve as a recognized subject matter expert in bridge inspection, bridge preservation, and ancillary transportation structure inspections while leading strategic growth initiatives and developing long-term client relationships across the state. The successful candidate will champion technical excellence, quality assurance, employee development, and client service while advancing RS&H's national bridge management and preservation vision. The role aligns with RS&H's commitment to creating a national approach to projects, resources, quality, and technical excellence while developing new clients and markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Michigan Bridge Scoping & Program Development
- Lead the development and delivery of bridge inspection programs throughout Michigan.
- Provide oversight of inspection scoping, work planning, budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Partner with clients to develop technical approaches that align with NBIS requirements and support long-term asset management objectives.
Bridge Inspection & Ancillary Structure Leadership
- Serve as a technical leader for bridge and ancillary structure inspection and evaluation projects.
- Oversee inspections, structural assessments, rehabilitation recommendations, and QA/QC activities.
- Mentor inspection staff and promote best practices, technical excellence, and consistency across projects.
Business Development & Client Growth
- Identify and pursue bridge inspection, preservation, asset management, and ancillary structure opportunities across Michigan.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation agencies, clients, and strategic partners.
- Support proposals, interviews, pursuits, and growth initiatives that expand RS&H's market presence.
Regional Expansion & Market Leadership
- Develop and execute strategies to grow bridge inspection services throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
- Identify emerging market opportunities and position RS&H to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions.
- Collaborate with national teams to expand service offerings, capabilities, and technical resources.
Project & Staff Management
- Serve as Project Manager and Technical Lead for major bridge inspection contracts.
- Manage project delivery, budgets, staffing, schedules, and client communication.
- Lead, mentor, and develop technical staff while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Quality, Technical Excellence & Strategic Leadership
- Lead QA/QC initiatives and support the development of inspection standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Champion innovation in bridge preservation, asset management, and inspection technologies.
- Drive consistency in technical delivery, client service, and operational excellence across the region.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university required;
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required with ability to obtain comity in additional jurisdictions as needed.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive bridge and structural inspection experience.
- Completion of NHI Bridge Safety Inspection Training.
- Demonstrated experience inspecting bridges, retaining walls, culverts, complex transportation structures, and construction engineering projects.
- Experience evaluating bridge structures and developing life-cycle maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.
- Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering and inspection staff.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO BrM, Bentley AssetWise, Microsoft 365, and transportation asset management systems.
