Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Sr. Principal (level 4) or Principal Energetics Engineer (level 3) to join our Rocket Motor Manufacturing team. This position will be located at our Bacchus facility located in Magna, Utah.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes for the production of solid rocket motors and other energetic products
  • Demonstrate and instill a strong safety culture in daily operations
  • Continuously improving manufacturing processes using Lean Six Sigma methodology
  • Mentoring earlier career engineers on material and process
  • Performing cause and corrective action investigations to permanently eliminate defects using root cause analysis tools
  • Working with concurrent engineering team to create Build-to-Packages (i.e. engineering and planning documents)
  • Authoring, updating and reviewing shop floor planning
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to leadership and external customers for review and approval
  • Monitoring production events and utilizing SPC tools to ensure process control
  • Developing and incorporating process improvements, disseminating lessons learned to team and ensuring improvements are incorporated
  • Troubleshooting production, tooling, and facility issues and implementing solutions
  •  Leading design, checkout, qualification and implementation of new or modified tooling or equipment

Skills & Qualifications

  • Self-Starter that takes initiative to complete tasks and assignments with little supervision 
  • Experience with thermal and electrical protection materials
  • Experience working with energetics, rubbers, composites, metals, adhesives, primers, and coatings
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques
  • Interpreting blueprints and specifications, GD&T standards 
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Statistical Process Controls (SPC)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This position can be filled at either Level 03 or Level 4.

Basic Qualifications:

For level 3

  • B.S. degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of experience. 3 years of experience with a master’s degree.  
  • Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience writing electronic shop instructions  
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

For level 4

  • B.S. degree in a STEM discipline plus 8 years of experience. 6 years of experience with a master’s degree.  
  • 5 years’ experience in solid rocket motor manufacturing (propellent mixing, propellant casting, rocket motor final assembly, propellant-to-insulator case bond system, etc)
  • Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience writing electronic shop instructions  
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree is preferred.
  • with Manufacturing Planning and MRP software
  • Experience with PLM Software (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
  • Experience with using 3D modeling software (Solidworks, NX, Pro-E, etc.)
  • Experience working with Aerospace standards and the implementation of standards across cross-functional teams

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
