Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for an insurance organization in Jersey City, New Jersey. This Contract position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, managing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet accounts are properly supported. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:
• Lead recurring close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing financial data, and helping ensure timely completion of month-end reporting.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording and validating financial activity with a high degree of accuracy.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support and clear documentation for audit readiness.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Complete bank reconciliations by comparing account activity, researching exceptions, and correcting variances as needed.
• Analyze accounting records to identify unusual trends, inconsistencies, or items requiring follow-up.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather supporting information and keep accounting deliverables on schedule.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience working in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for monthly close processes.

• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and the preparation of journal entries.

• Hands-on experience completing account reconciliations and investigating outstanding items.

• Demonstrated ability to manage bank reconciliations accurately and efficiently.

• Solid understanding of accounting controls, financial accuracy, and supporting documentation standards.

• High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Industry experience in insurance is preferred is a must

Compensation

$61.75-$71.50 Hourly
