We are looking for an experienced Labor and Employment Associate to join a growing legal team serving employers in Oakland, California. This opportunity is well suited for a licensed attorney who brings strong litigation experience, sound judgment, and a practical approach to advising clients on workplace law matters. The role offers meaningful responsibility in both litigation and day-to-day counseling, with the chance to support public and private sector employers on complex employment issues.

Responsibilities:
• Represent employer clients in labor and employment disputes involving claims such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour matters, and related class or collective actions.
• Provide strategic guidance to management on compliance with California and federal employment laws, helping clients address workplace issues before they escalate.
• Draft persuasive motions, pleadings, briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents in support of litigation and advisory matters.
• Manage all phases of discovery, including written discovery, document review, production strategy, and coordination of case-related evidence.
• Take and defend depositions and assist with hearing, arbitration, and trial preparation for employment-related proceedings.
• Prepare responses to administrative agency matters, including position statements and submissions related to civil rights and employment claims.
• Conduct workplace investigations and prepare clear, well-reasoned investigative findings and written reports.
• Develop and review employment policies, employee handbooks, separation agreements, and other workplace documents to support legal compliance.
• Advise clients on issues such as disability accommodation, protected leave, contingent workforce practices, and other employment compliance obligations.

Qualifications:

• Active attorney licensure and at least 5 years of experience handling labor and employment matters.
• Demonstrated background in employment litigation, including motion practice, legal research, briefing, and case strategy development.
• Strong knowledge of California and federal employment laws affecting employer compliance and workplace disputes.
• Experience managing discovery, taking or defending depositions, and supporting matters through arbitration, hearing, or trial preparation.
• Ability to counsel employers on issues involving wage and hour law, discrimination, retaliation, accommodations, and leave requirements.
• Excellent analytical, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage matters independently.
• Sound judgment, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation

$190,000.00-$225,000.00 Yearly
