Sr. Property Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Property Accountant to support the financial operations of a real estate portfolio in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate property-level records, preparing recurring financial deliverables, and investigating account activity to ensure reliable reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily and monthly reconciliation of property bank accounts, investigate outstanding items, and ensure issues are cleared promptly.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed asset activity and capitalization entries, while identifying and correcting variances.
• Prepare mortgage and escrow account reconciliations and follow through on any discrepancies to maintain accurate records.
• Create and post journal entries related to accruals, reclassifications, depreciation, amortization, and other month-end accounting activity.
• Review monthly management fee calculations for accuracy before submission for approval.
• Assemble complete property financial reporting packages and provide additional supporting financial information as needed.
• Evaluate account activity and financial trends, then communicate notable findings to support decision-making.
• Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle and provide support for year-end audit and tax preparation requirements.
• Participate in special assignments and ad hoc projects that support the broader accounting team and business needs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, with prior exposure to property or real estate accounting strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
• Proficiency with accounting systems, including Yardi as a preferred platform.
• Experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, and accrual-based accounting.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and solid proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe applications.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and maintain discretion in a paperless, technology-driven environment.

Compensation

$70,000.00-$95,000.00 Yearly
