The Office of Business, Hospitality and Auxiliary Services (BHAS) leads the University's foundational business services and is one of the many units under Finance and Operations. BHAS performs critical services to ensure our students, staff, faculty, and visitors have an exceptional experience on campus, including:

  • All residence halls and University-owned leased apartments
  • 36 dining locations across campus
  • Hospitality services, including camps and conferences, the University Club, and Heinz Memorial Chapel
  • University Logistics, including student and campus mail, surplus property, campus printing, and moving services
  • Campus Mobility, including parking lots and garages, campus shuttles, and commuting opportunities
  • Panther Central – the University’s one-stop shop for all campus needs including Pitt IDs
  • Campus retail operations, including three on-campus stores - The University Store on Fifth, Maggie & Stella's Cards & Gifts, and The Pitt Shop

Job Summary

Manages operations for a single retail store and ensures profitability and successful performance of an assigned retail store. Increases sales (e.g., online and in-person), ensures customer satisfaction, and complies with organizational policies and procedures. Ensures that stores are cleaned and merchandised in accordance with all standards. Monitors cash flow and inventory. Coordinates store events.


Essential Functions

The Pitt Shop is seeking a qualified candidate for the Retail Store Manager position. The Pitt Shop on Forbes is the one-stop shop for all of your game day gear and is a licensed retailer for the Pitt Panthers and the University of Pittsburgh.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervises staff, including hiring, distributing, and reviewing work, performing performance reviews, documenting disciplinary actions and other human resource administration, managing work schedules, and approving timecards.Provides professional development opportunities.
  • Oversees retail financial analysis and inventory management and control. Monitors retail operations budget and ensures budgetary guidelines.
  • Creates scheduling, training, loss prevention plans, promotions, and events. Works effectively across University departments to implement marketing and communications strategies, including social media and advertising.
  • Implements sales and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Develops policies and procedures for best practices in retail customer service, inventory, and fiscal management.
  • Assists with strategic planning and benchmarking, researching industry trends and best practices.
  • Coordinates, plans, and executes sales floor merchandising in accordance with standards and guidelines. Ensures cleanliness and organization of store and inventory.
  • Purchases operational supplies and is responsible for the operational budget. Negotiates vendor supply purchases.
  • Coordinates store events, including, but not limited to, graduation fairs, holiday events, rush times, and seasonal athletic events, and ensures proper staffing for store events.
  • Utilizes online programs to manage web stores and fulfill orders. Works across University departments for website updates.
  • Well-versed in Microsoft Suite. Has strong computer skills with the ability to create Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and use Microsoft Teams.

Physical Effort

Standing, and walking. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects up to 50lbs. Requires standing for long hours at a time.
