JOb Summary

Telecom Electrical Engineer designs, installs, and maintains the electrical and electronic infrastructure supporting voice, data, and video networks. The incumbent of this role will bridge electrical engineering principles with telecommunications, managing power distribution, signal routing, and equipment reliability to ensure continuous, high-speed connectivity. This role will liaison the optimization and future-proof of the electrical and communication infrastructure that drives next-generation networks.

Qualifications or Prerequisites


Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Infrastructure Design: Develop electrical schematics, power distribution plans, and structural layouts for cell towers, data centers, switching stations, and fiber optic networks.
  • Power Systems Management: Drive the installation, managing, and maintenance of critical power equipment, including DC power systems, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), all generator types, and precision air conditioning.
  • Lead battery lifecycle management — wet cell, VRLA, and lithium systems. Oversee replacement programs and procurement.
  • Power & Energy Systems: Engineer resilient power distribution systems, DC plants, UPS configurations, and backup generation. Drive the integration of renewable energy sources (solar, micro-wind, advanced battery storage) into remote cell sites.
  • Forward-Thinking R&D: Research, evaluate, and prototype emerging technologies. Spearhead initiatives in edge computing power distribution, network automation, and software-defined network (SDN) hardware alignment. 
  • Network Testing: Run diagnostic tests on signal strength, latency, and bandwidth using equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital meters to minimize lag and prevent outages.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all broadcasting equipment, cable layouts, and structural rigging conform to federal telecommunications and electrical safety regulations. 
  • Troubleshooting & Upgrades: Identify root causes of electrical or signal faults, repair system hardware, and implement infrastructure upgrades to meet growing data demands. 
  • Other related key functions:

  • Design and assess electrical systems for telecom infrastructure (cell sites, central offices) 
  • Perform load calculations, load balancing, and rebalancing 
  • Lead generator maintenance and reliability programs 
  • Monitor and optimize power consumption and energy costs 
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and capital projects

    REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with transformers, generators, and circuit breakers.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interpret complex data and diagnostic tools to optimize network performance
  • Proven ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, challenge conventional methodologies, and identify new opportunities for infrastructure optimization
  •  Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
  • Experience with project management and budgeting
  •  Ability to conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses
  •  Proficiency in technical report writing

  •  Experience with renewable energy systems is a plus
  •  Strong computer skills, including MS Office
  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: 3-5+ years in Electrical Engineering or other related field. 
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline

  • TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in power system analysis software
  • Strong knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution
  • Strong understanding of electronic schematics, fiber optics, radio systems, and electrical components
  • Medium voltage (MV) systems — cable installation, splicing & terminating (5kV–35kV)
  • Low voltage — panel work, load calculations, service entrance, distribution, conduit
  • Backup power systems: diesel/propane generators, UPS, ATS, SPD, rectifiers, DC plants
  • Battery technologies: wet cell, VRLA, LiFePO4, BMS
  • Fuel Management Systems (FMS) — commissioning, sensor repair, NOC telemetry
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

  • Physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting 
  • Walk and sit, stand, talk or hear, seeing, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, twist, and grasp

  • Traversing on foot to complete a task; Use of upper extremities to maneuver; climb heights up to 28ft on ladder if required; exposure to extreme temperatures; subject to both environmental conditions
