Summary
The Mortgage Loan Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Mortgage Lending team during a temporary staffing absence. This role is designed to support loan production, maintain timely member service, and ensure efficient loan processing workflow. The intern will assist with both front-end origination support and back-end file preparation activities under the guidance of the Mortgage team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the Mortgage phone line and respond to inbound inquiries, including internal lead follow-up; contact prospective borrowers to provide general mortgage product information, pricing guidance, and next steps following internal training
- Assist members with completing mortgage applications (online or paper) and provide required documentation checklists and instructions
- Prepare, organize, and maintain loan files throughout the origination and processing stages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with required quality control (QC) documentation requirements
- Conduct borrower follow-up to obtain outstanding documentation required to satisfy underwriting conditions and support loan approval; assist Mortgage Loan Specialist activities such as obtaining verbal verifications of employment (VOEs), coordinating updates to homeowners’ insurance policies to reflect correct mortgagee/lienholder information, and collecting required documentation
- Support mortgage pipeline tracking activities, including monitoring loan status and assisting with timely movement of files through the origination process
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the Mortgage Department, including support of mortgage servicing activities and maintenance of loan documentation and files as needed.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Education and/or Experience
Experience- 6 months to 2 years related experience.
Education- 2-year degree or completion of a specialized course of study OR 2 years of related experience.
Physical, Mental and Working Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform primarily sedentary office work, operate standard office equipment, and use a computer for extended periods. Must be able to communicate effectively, follow instructions, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism under deadlines. Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Occasional extended hours or off-site travel may be required. Regular attendance and the ability to handle confidential information are essential.
