Overview
The Fabrication Manager – Machine Shop plays a critical role in driving performance, efficiency, and employee satisfaction by evaluating organizational processes and implementing improvements that enhance work quality and productivity. This role will be the leader of a machine shop with over 60 CNC machines (30 of which are unique) on a 200,000 square foot production floor.
Responsibilities
Operations
- Leads fabrication operations so that production and budgetary goals are consistently met. Over sees and monitors operations to ensure production schedules are met, and quality standards are maintained.
- Determines equipment availability and capabilities to efficiently schedule, coordinate and move fab orders through the facility. Responsible for coordinating shop activities.
- Build production schedules and estimate delivery for order fulfillment to meet the operational targets of the factory
- Assess machine resources to maintain continuous production and reduce downtime
- Lead and drive the team to continuously meet the performance standard of operation – KPI’s, including Quality, On-Time Delivery, Cost, Safety, etc.
- Generate production Capacity Requirement Planning (CRP) according to the demand forecast and generate production resource requirement plan to include labor, equipment, fixtures, tools and sub-materials, etc. to support the CRP
Financial
- Financial performance ownership – drive earned hours, improve productivity per employee, and maximize machine capacity utilization to ensure efficient operations and strong overall performance.
- Identify potential problems and points of friction and working to find solutions to maximize efficiency and revenue
Leadership
- Encourage, support, and provide guidance to production staff
- Inspire and motivate employees to perform at their best through positive encouragement and incentive initiatives
- Produce a Performance Management Process across area of responsibility for effectiveness, timeliness, and expected outcomes for overall business strategies and goals
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives on production flow and resource alignment, process efficiency and effectiveness by using LEAN manufacturing & Six Sigma principles
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Operations/Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
- 7+ years manufacturing operations experience to include 2+ years demonstrated supervisory responsibility
- Must have knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in cnc machining and cnc programming.
- Ability to coach and motivate employees
- Experienced in designing and implementing continuous flow lines, line balancing, and other related production optimization techniques to include application of Lean manufacturing principles
